What Is The Lemon Car?

The Lemon Car is unique by providing students with a Road Safety Education program that is not classroom based and not chalk and talk. The Lemon Car is the only hands-on program in Australia where I bring a specially modified car to your school. It’s a student-centered program where students collaboratively assess the car for faults using diagrams and checklists.

The Lemon Car is a hands-on presentation for years 10 and 11 students on how to carry out a roadworthy check when buying their first car. I teach the students how to look for defects (bald tyres & cracked windscreens), illegal modifications (dark window tinting & oversized wheels) and incorrectly displayed L and P plates (2 demerit points and $263 fines).

The Lemon Car is invited back to revisit schools every year (visiting 40,000 students) because it delivers a unique practical-based road safety presentation that relates to car safety specifically. The Lemon Car is growing year on year as teachers and students engage positively with my style of presentation. I travel across NSW and the ACT and have been asked to deliver to Schools in Victoria and Queensland.

I can help build student capacity in PDHPE by focusing on how to minimise the risks of crashes through driver education on car safety. I want to reach out and help our young drivers make the right decisions in buying a roadworthy vehicle. None of this is rocket science. If they buy cars with good tyres, good brakes and resist using mobile phone while driving, we will all be safer on the roads.

All students are given an RMS endorsed App absolutely free to use on their phone as a logbook to show how their driving lessons are progressing.

To have The Lemon Car presentation at your school, we simply require:

  • Minimum one hour presentations (50 - 60 students max per presentation)
  • An area 1/2 the size of a basketball court preferably under cover, due to rain or hot weather
  • Students to supply their own pen, mobile phone, manners and a sense of humour!
  • Number of students for the day
  • Start and finish times
  • Teacher contact number & school address
